Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen visited MAKÜ Farm

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen attended the "Reproductive Biotechnology Workshop" organized by the General Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and prepared to increase the effectiveness of Reproductive Biotechnology activities in Animal Breeding.

In addition to Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Gümen, Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz, protocol members, academicians, NGO representatives, and relevant institution directors attended the workshop held at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Lavanta Tepesi Hotel.

The workshop, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, continued with a promotional film prepared by the General Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.


The opening speech of the workshop was made by the General Director of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Salih Çelik. Then, the Central President of the Turkish Cattle Breeders Association, Kamil Özcan, spoke.

Then, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar gave a speech. Starting his speech by stating that they are a university specializing in the field of livestock and that the embryo transfer center is an important study for MAKÜ, Prof. Dr. Dalgar said; “I consider the embryo transfer, which is a critical project in reducing our country's dependence on foreign countries in the field of livestock, as a milestone. I think a good result will come out with the opinions of you esteemed masters in the program, and our ministry will carry the work to a good point by paving the way for those who want to work on this issue. Our university has many projects in the field of livestock as we are a specialized university in this field.” Rector Dalgar then made a short presentation about the studies conducted by MAKÜ in the field of livestock.

Then, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen gave a speech. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Gümen said; “Among our works, providing the necessary opportunities to animal product markets to ensure consumers' access to sufficient and healthy food is included. In this direction, it will be possible to create herds with superior productivity characteristics through biotechnology applications in the field of livestock, increase the yield obtained per animal, disseminate and preserve genetic materials, and control infectious diseases.”


After the speeches, presentations were made on ministry breeding activities, embryo production centers, and embryo production and transfer activities in enterprises.

Deputy Minister Gümen Conducted Inspections at MAKÜ

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen, who came to Burdur to attend the IPARD III Promotion and Information Meetings conducted by the Provincial Coordination of the Agricultural and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK) and to make a series of visits, toured and inspected the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) İstiklal Campus.


Deputy Minister Gümen, who first visited the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, was accompanied by Burdur Deputies Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz and Mustafa Oğuz, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ömer Tekşen and Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner, and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çağrı Karakurum, and academicians. Meeting with students in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and chatting with them, Deputy Minister Gümen stated that he was very happy to learn that MAKÜ's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was accredited internationally by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and said, “The accreditation obtained provides a high level of benefit especially for academicians and students who want to work abroad, collaborate, and carry out projects. With this accreditation, which certifies that the education you receive here is at acceptable standards, you can work successfully both domestically and abroad. It is a very dedicated work, I thank everyone who contributed. It is a very important process and since students are now aware of this, they also want to contribute to the process in a dedicated manner. I thank everyone who contributed again.”


Deputy Minister Gümen, who also visited the MAKÜ Animal Hospital, then visited the shopping center, which was completed and whose interior designs were being done, the MAKÜ Farm, and the Dairy Technologies Research and Development Center Laboratory within the İstiklal Campus.

Inspecting the works carried out in the İstiklal Campus on-site, Gümen expressed his satisfaction with the presence of such a campus in Burdur, his hometown.
